Re: Oil

Tony, I had already found your discussion about the torque values, then I read this post and figured you must be the oil expert! Hi Mike. The model has a very limited audience. Ken Hill sent me what he had many years ago and I posted it on GoMoG..but I removed it when it became a target on ...

Re: Distributor problems 1982 Plus 8

71 views and not an idea between you! Luckily I have some better informed contacts and have resolved the problem myself! Sorry for the delay Mary. The best aftermarket distributor I have found for a Plus 8 is the Mallory Unilite (not their Dual Point). All the information you need is here. http://w...

Re: R380 gearbox bits

Lorne, I have had the old one welded so it should last some time. I think... I have managed to find a couple of new ones. They sound right but I will know when they arrive. I plan to have the joint on the flange welded properly.. then at least I will have a replacement That's exactly what I did. I ...

Re: Oil Pressure

Hi, Both the sump and I are baffled & there's an oil cooler. I think I'll strip the pump tonight to see if there is any wear. I wonder if something can go wrong with how the pressure relief valve seats? Relief valve is the most common cause of your symptoms...though I have also seen cases where...

Re: R380 gearbox bits

Can any one help or point me in the right direction. I need a "Gear Lever Cap" It holds the gear lever in on the Remote Gear Change Housing. I am trying everyone I can think of including, gearbox - Landrover and part search people but so far no joy. It is a stupid flimsy thing held in pla...

Re: Sealing split rims

Wheel manufacturers use and sell an item called a rim band. When they are compromised, like yours, they are replaced. I suggest you use that.

Re: Electronic Ignition/Ballast Resistor

About 18 months ago, I fitted my 1983 Plus 8 with a Mallory Electronic Ignition system complete with Mallory Coil and Magnecor leads. The system came with a separate Ballast Resistor but when I wired in this resistor the car ran rough, but by by-passing the resistor and wiring the coil direct to th...

Re: Fuel cells - FIA approved

Just get Pete Mulberry to make you one I too, am a big fan of Peter Mulberry. However, there is a big difference between a what Jochem has now and an aluminum tank filled with foam. Mind you, at the price of a real fuel cell made for a Morgan..there is no surprise that people go a non-cell route. T...

Re: Fuel cells - FIA approved

Yes. Your gallon is likely the AFL small standard cell (10 US gallons) The world has two makers of proper fuel cells...which consist of a foam filled deformable bladder filled with foam contained in a hard tank-like looking box. AFL and Fuel-Safe. I believe AFL bought out Fuel-Safe a in 2004. (Both ...

Re: Fan Belt Replacement

Next time, don't risk the belt. Remember that the engine is held on rubber engine supports at the sides and the the gearbox is on rubber as well.

Simply use a long bar between something solid on the engine and the cross bar and force the engine back a centimeter or two and slip the belt over.

Re: +4 apparent fuel starvation/pressure problems

In NA, racing requires a fuel cell, or a foam filled deformable bladder held in an aluminum tank shaped container. (Foam alone will not prevent puncture and leakage and pre-1993 Morgan fuel tanks are prone to puncture.) I run with such a cell. Of course, there are no baffles because of the bladder a...

Re: V8 Head Gasket

I have a sneaky suspicion that a head gasket has gone on my +8 as there is the usual mayonnaise in the rocker cap and catch tank breather. The car also blows out excess water from the headed tank..................but its not running cool and its performing really well.........strange. Question: Fir...

Re: Oil

Tony, There are a few bottom line facts that were missed. These are germane for this group. Oil additives are being changed or left out by new laws. For certain engines, one should be aware of these changes. The most commonly used additive in all motor oils since the 1920s was zinc dialkyldithiophos...

Re: V8 Idle Issues

Hi Tim, There are a few things that could cause the same issue. !. I would start off by following Chas's advice above. Your symptoms are not exactly the classic speedo transducer (that is the correct term for the thingie)..but close enough. Often it is simply a matter of a bad earth. Inevitably the ...
