Re: Aluminium collets?

Jochem John Mac used to use alloy valve collets , but I was informed many years later that the softness of the metal caused them to stretch slightly in use, therefore the idea was dropped. I never experienced any issues, but today's TR engines are tuned much closer to the limit, so I suspect such is...

Simply on the grounds that he has not been mentioned yet (ie: it is a wild guess) what about CJL in the original XRX 1?

Re: Coventry Climax Distributor Drive

John I have let the Aussie contingent know about this , and I think that John Merton will be contacting you. I was thinking about how to get the message out to a larger population. What about getting a small piece put into Miscellany , I suspect the majority of Series 1 owners are not on this forum ...

Jochem
Do you have any ID numbers for this car? Chassis or engine (OG if you prefer not to make it too public).

Is it the featured in the new 4/4 book?

Re: Supercharged +4s

Yes , I spent a lot of time (and money!) supercharging MOG 615 , and as the results show it was never well enough developed on the track , but on the road it was indeed fabulous. The supercharger was a 2 litre Wade vane type blower mounted low down on the left side of the engine. On a 2 litre engine...

Re: From the Archives

Mark John Macdonald's +4 was XXXX EL , affectionately known as "Ellie" It was a high line car with a relatively mildly tuned engine , a Newman Rally cam, a 4 branch exhaust, and twin SUs (the ram pipes for which came through the bonnet) . It was white in colour with black trim. I think it ...

Re: Where is Peter Evans?

Herman
Peter was an active VSCC member with a GN special. They might have records for him
I believe that his Super Sports was one of the few steel bodied and winged cars , I think it was built originally for Cyril Charlesworth (but my memory ain't what it used to be these days!)

Re: Quaife LSD

Jim I have little doubt that in their heyday TOK, XRX , and the other "historic" +4s did not use the LSD initially. However I am led to believe that they all use them today, and were certainly using them in the 1970s when I was competing against them, in races like the Charles Spreckley Th...

Quaife LSD

Guys I am posting this on behalf of another Mog owner who does not frequent this forum. He is awaiting a new LSD for his VVTi engined 4/4. Billy Bellinger is trying to get a new batch of 10 Quaife LSDs made up and does not have enough orders as yet. As I understand it (but I am no expert, and no dou...

Re: Hoosier tyres on my +4

Jochem I have no specific knowledge of Hoosier Tyres but they at least one type were reckoned to be "super sticky" softs in their day. If more than 4 years old the rubber will have aged and they could have precious little grip, as rubber hardens with exposure to air. To be on the safe side...

Jochem
That is a very nice car with great provenance , and presumably a joy to own and drive as well.
Is this your second +4 ? I thought the rally car was dark blue and a highline , this one is red/white and a lowline, or am I just confused?

Re: Basket case +4 Wanted

John (and others) This car is still awaiting its rebuild. The owner is the son of my late friend, Ron Brown. It is a 1959 high line car and was competed from its very early days by first owner Hugh Wilmore , who appears in the same racing programme as one Christopher Lawrence. I am helping do some c...

Re: 1981 Willhire Snetterton photographs

Sorry Mary I was standing on the pit top talking with Peter Morgan when we caught sight of your car during its first roll , I immediately dropped my camera as I sprinted (I was a lot younger then!) down the pits to get as close as I could. I was more concerned for you than the car, as I think I drop...

Re: Drop arm for Gemma steering box

Jonathon What length drop arm do you have, they come in 2 distinct lengths, the first ones were longer and fitted to Series 1s and other early cars , and can be recognised by a boss of metal fairly close to the end before the tapered hole. The big advantage of these arms are that they quicken up the...
