Forget the previous entry of Adrian Dence, was it Brian Kendall?

Hello Eddie,

You've got us over the line - but what made you change your mind from Adrian Dence to Brian Kendall.

See the summary under the photo above for details.

Morning Andy,

Changed my mind after looking back at the photo and supporting details. Realised (brain on slow tick over at that point) that Adrian Dence was driving the 4th placed car, he couldn't be driving two cars in the same race, could he ?????????????

My second name choice came after recently reading Ken Hill's book "The Four-Wheeled Morgan, Volume 2: The Cowled-Radiator Models", which I bought at the Classic Car Show in November. It is a great read and covers "a golden era " (my words) in +4 racing.

Most other famous drivers of the time had been mentioned, so I decided to put forward Brian Kendall's name as he was, according to the book, one at the forefront at that time.

Great photo by the way, bring on the next competition !!!

All Best,

Eddie.

Morning Jack,
The book "Morgan Sports Cars. The Heritage Years 1954-1960" by J.D.Alderson & Chris Chapman with Craig Atkins, is a great reference point for this sort of information.

John Looker was driving a 1955 +4, reg. OWP 38, and as Andy says finished 3rd.

Don Pacey was driving a 1954 +4, reg. 818 DMD, and finished just behind in 4th.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Eddie Singleton.

Thanks for that Eddie (and I have that book on my shelf - never thought to look !).

Interestingly SAH 137 was Sid A Hurrell's private plate as TOK 258 was to Chris Lawrence, he was the proprietor of SAH Tuning and he was the Chris Lawrence of the Triumph world. This number now adorns the ..... Triumph SLR (TR4-based rather than Morgan). I'll post a picture (courtesy of Liegh Sebba).

Records suggest OWP 38 is about in the UK somewhere but 818 DMD may have gone abroad.
I agree it would be good to see cars back in action on the track. Just wish I was many years younger and could afford !!!!!!!!!!

OWP 38 is very much about and was certainly until recently enjoying life trialling. It used to be looked after by Douggies which is where I saw it last but that must be a few years ago now. It has certainly led a competitive life!

Great photo Bill. Some very interesting cars on the grid.

OWP 38 had a number of different engines over the years.

When I last saw it I think it was fitted with a later TR4 engine.

It had gone back to the factory in the late Sixties/early Seventies and they rebuilt it to the then current spec.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Cheers

Hi there,
Another recent eBay photo purchase, unknown LawrenceTune car, not able to decipher the name on the bonnet. Have yet to purchase a copy of 'Morgan Sports Cars : The LawrenceTune Years 1961-1964' which might have helped the identification.
