Algarve Historic Festival - 16 to 18 October

Post by Phil Egginton »

Anyone planning or thinking of going to the Algarve Historic Festival at the Autodromo do Algarve from 16th to 18th October?

See: http://www.themastersseries.com/event-information.html and http://www.autodromodoalgarve.com

As I have mentioned before I have a specialist vehicle services business (http://www.puxarlustro.com) based at the circuit. I am trying to talk to the organisers about doing a Morgan celebration (they already have 100 years of Audi on the agenda). It would be great to have some Morgans racing!!

I can help with arranging accommodation etc....

The Masters series moved on from the Algarve straight to Monteblanco, Spain, so the results haven't been posted yet on their website. It's a tough life ... :)

By the magic of the internet I can however reveal that the results are available to download from the Press Officers website as follows:

http://www.mediafire.com/?lel2r7vlg26j6

The Gentlemen Drivers race results are specifically here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?qia9up9zt17m7ar

I know that Messrs Plant and Lees had a jolly good time and improved their position from qualifying to race notably.

I have loads of photos which I will put onto Photobucket and post a link

Cheers

Great pictures Phil ! Gives a real sense of ''being there''. Especially after talking to Richard at length last night. Very envious!

Can't believe it's 2 years since we went round the circuit in the S-Max!

Richard said what we already knew - a fantastic circuit!

See you next year?!

Cheers

As one who decided to wiz off at dawn on Friday for 3 day visit it was a great place –
1 Perfect weather (about 70 degrees and sunny – with a cool breeze in the evening)
2 Less than an hour from Faro airport on an empty motorway
3 30 minutes from the seaside hotels
4 Circuit looked fantastic - winding among the hills – lots of blind brows and bends. Didn’t get to drive around it myself
5 All brand new track, grandstands, etc. Practically no local spectators (or drivers). Mostly the usual lot from UK. Reasonable viewing from grandstand – or if you chat up Phil E ….. (thanks Phil)
6 The circuit even had a swimming pool in the paddock !
7 But – of course – if you actually want to race there one has to get the car there ! One of the Mog 3 wheelers in pre war race appeared to be travelling in the back of their (very small) camper van
8 As for the races – generally the results sheets probably show the main action. Some casualties (cars) in the 2 hour 1950s race – including a couple of cases of back wheels breaking off – perhaps a circuit that puts a strain on the older cars ? Most impressive was the Historic F1 race with the first three fighting it out - even the great Tony Lees was impressed
9 Table football, karting…….all the fun of Spa but in sunshine :) :) :)

Just back from a few extra days with the family in the lovely autumn sun in portugal.
What an amazing track! I think the designer must be a racer with a sadistic streak - "hmm where can I put another uphill/downhill/offcamber hairpin and another blind crest?"
Leigh you were spot on.
Thanks to Richard for letting me have another go in his lovely car.
Thanks also to Phil E for his excellent hospitality.
Cheers, Tony

Also just back- late last night after having gone on to Monteblanco after Algarve. Portimao was fantastic, as it was last year, and has to be one of those tracks that draws you back...... Good 90 minute GD race, 100% reliability from all 4 Morgans again, with all on same lap at end.

A few racers including me spent two days camped in dunes at Lagos between events which was great. Luckily we had 3 mountain bikes and for 60 euros a 4th was purchased from local Pingu Dolce supermarket. A fantastic ride ensued along the cliffs to Luz with spectacular views!

Monteblanco was interesting and as Escort had expired with head gasket failure at Portimao the Plus 4 was unexpectedly entered in GD again- this time 2 hours and on my own. Don't think have ever worked so hard in a race, the circuit very twisty with lots of 2nd gear corners. Also longest straight in europe with hairpin at the end. Fortunately entry speed onto straight is also 2nd gear so Morgan is accelerating for most of length. Great fun outbraking bigger cars as they had to start slowing well before me! Beat the Dutch aero screen car as it had to do a 'splash & dash' near end of race. Track very abrasive and destroyed all the tyres had with me. Now all virtually bald! Weather was perfect as at Portimao, and circuit well away from tourist areas so local towns very Spanish!

Apparantly Masters are set to make 2 more visits to Spain and Portugal next year, one in April and one in June. Hopefully they will not abandon Portimao in October.

I understand from the circuit that the Historic will still be in October but there will also be an event in the spring. There was supposed to be Euroboss/Historic Group C this year but the Ash Cloud put paid to that.

The October event will probably be either earlier or later in October as the World Superbikes final is currently scheduled for 16 October 2011 at AIA.

When I know more I will let you know.
