Formula 1 World Champion 2011?
Formula 1 World Champion 2011?
I recollected that back at the start of the 2009 season Chris challenged us to predict the result of the F1 Championship, and I took a look back at our predictions!
How wrong we all were!
So what about this year? Anybody willing to stick their neck out and name the first three at the end of the season?
The main contenders must surely be Alonso, Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, with Massa, Button and perhaps Kubica possible outsiders. Maybe Mercedes will produce a decent car and Schumacher and Rosberg could figure in the mix.
Come on give it a lash, after all you can only be wrong at the end of the day.
I think it would be unfair of me to make a prediction at this stage due to my in depth knowledge of the sport (well the hospitality aspect.).
Bob.

Good idea Bob. For those who need a refresher on who's with whom, see here.
Or for Bob's competition I'll take the Ferrari lunch...

Re: Formla 1 World Champion 2011?
Thank you for your support Chris, but no takers as yet!
To aid deliberations I can remind any participants of the main statistics from 2010.
1) There were 19 races on the calendar.
2) Vettel (Red Bull) won five races
3) Alonso (Ferrari) won five races.
4) Webber (Red Bull) won four races.
5) Hamilton (McLaren) won three races.
6) Button (McLaren) won two races.
Vettel took 10 pole positions, Webber 4, Alonso 2, Hamilton 2. (Hulkenburg took 1)
Vettel had 4 no score's, Alonso 3, Webber 2, Hamilton 4, and Button 3.
Hamilton finished 2nd six times, Button 3, Webber 4, Vettel & Alonso 2.
Remember; This year we have new regulations, including a 'moveable rear wing' to increase straight line speed, Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems, and a new tyre supplier in Pirelli.
Pick the bones ........! As they say.

Well done Greg, you have certainly been the first to accept this challenge (if we ignore the usual silly answers) I wish you the best of luck with your first season and with your prediction.gregparnell wrote:Looking forward to my first Challenge season.

Getting back to the subject again
1st Hamilton, 2nd Vettel, 3rd Rosberg
Simon Baines - suffering withdrawal symptoms from lack of track time..

Re: Formula 1 World Champion 2011?
Not many takers on this one, is it lack of interest in Formula 1 or, perhaps, a lack of confidence?
Having started the whole sorry mess, I suppose I should add my own prediction before the subject is consigned the dustbin of history.
First Alonso.
He is the most experienced driver with two Championships to his name and a very near miss in 2010. He will not be fighting his own team mate, unlike his main rivals, and he has now fully settled into the Ferrari team, and the Italian marque will be very focused from the start of the season.
Second Vettel.
With one title under his belt he will be more settled in the team and in himself, Red Bull will provide hime with a race winning car, but he will have to scrap with Webber for every point.
Third Webber.
Once again with a good car he will be even more determined to take the Championship in what is likely to be his last real chance, however, he will not be able to match Vettel over a season.
Outside chance for Hamilton if McLaren provide a superior car to main rivals, but will make too many mistakes and spoil his chances.
Of course by the the end of the year we will all have forgotten about this item, so it will not matter if all three of us get it wrong.
