Posh Nosh and Good Company

Post by Bob Bull »

I would like to thank Katy Thompson for inviting me to the Drivers Dinner at the Belfry Hotel last night, I am well known in my family as 'anti-social' avoiding any kind of occasion that involves 'socialising. Weddings, anniversaries, any kind of party is an anathema to me, so it is with great regret that I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my evening out with the Morgan drivers, and other luminaries of the club.
Not only was I made to feel welcome, I also picked up an impossibly heavy trophy that will grace my mantelpiece for the next twelve months, just for snapping a few characters from around the paddocks of the nation. (I should admit that including a number of images of a certain young child may have swayed things my way, having learnt from Dominic last year that such an approach tends to work in one's favour.)

I was delighted that the 'Fact or Fiction' puzzle worked out so well, and that no one demanded their money back as a result of any calumny attributed to them, such a shame that it was not possible to check which 'fact' was chosen against each individual. This would most certainly have lead to a few blood feud or two.

So thank you to Katy and Andrew, Phillip and Sharlie, and everyone else for your hospitality, and excellent company.

Now just in case I get invited next year, I am busy working on a new contribution to the entertainment, flushed with success after the last one.

Kind regards to you all,

Bob Bull.

PS; Keep an eye on the fantastic new Aero web site, a report will be submitted.

Good to see you Bob and I understand the last time you wore your DJ was at Fangio’s 80th birthday ?

I enjoyed your drivers amazing facts quiz and some were so amazing that I managed to collar the driver the next day and discovered that some had been ‘embellished’ a little – although still impressive =D>

Embellished!!!! Plague on all of their houses (NO PUN INTENDED) I reported the 'facts' precisely as they were presented to me, although I suppose it is possible that I misunderstood some of the more garbled utterances. Not all Morgan drivers are necessarily coherent in a race meeting paddock.

Not being used to attending these more formal occasions I borrowed my friend Willie's DJ, it would not button across, was somewhat tight under the arms, and I wore trousers that did not match. I do not suppose that anyone noticed my lack of sartorial elegance though. To dine with two of the greatest drivers ( No not you lot) ever to grace the motor sport scene I did hire the pukka gear, only to have a waiter to empty a jug of cream over it.

On Thursday I will be at the White Horse in Silverstone Village taking part in the Silverstone Marshals annual quiz night, where I will hopefully fit in a little better.

NB; Leigh, it is entirely possible that many of the participants failed to recognise their 'true' contribution and became confused with the 'fictional truths', or much preferred my explanation as being more prestigious.

A fresh competition for the next Driver's Extravaganza is well advanced, and should give everyone a good laugh, and a few headaches. University Challenge should be good practice for would be contenders.
