Lyndon Simms

Post by Andy Green »

A friend in the Gilbern club has been doing some research into Lyndon Sims ,as he built a Gilbern GT for competition in 1963 (and ultimately it was destined for Le Mans!)

Anyway he "possibly" entered a works Morgan into a "big" sports car race, may be Spa? while his(Sims) biggest achievement was winning the RAC Rally in a DB2 in the early 1950's

Any info appreciated

Sims caused a surprise by leading the Mk. VII Jaguars for the first two laps in his 2 1/2 Riley saloon until he spun off after Stowe in a big way.

I remember Lyndon Sims and Guy Grace racing 2.5 litre Riley saloons at Silverstone, and the incident described above (courtesy of Motor Sport) is still vivid in my memory, spectating at Stowe out. I was a great Riley fan back then and was thrilled to see Sims leading the works Jaguars - for a while at least.

Never much in to rallying so can't add much to this discussion. Sorry Gerry.

A quick look on http://www.racingsportscars.com/driver/ ... ms-GB.html elicits the following;

Lyndon Sims is listed for two events;

1954 750MC 6-Hour Relay (Silverstone) – Riley Saloon 2,400cc

1956 AMOC Handicap (Silverstone) – Aston Martin DB2

I'll dig a bit deeper...
