Murray Montgomery Smith

Post by Mary Lindsay »

I am sad to report that that Murray passed away earlier today. He had been diagnosed with an untreatable cancer in January.

Murray was a true one-off, an eccentric and great Morgan enthusiast. He will be well remembered for his lime green Morgan Plus 4 that he trialled and used on the road with immense commitment and enthusiasm.

Murray and the MurrayMint Special will be sorely missed. A true Morgan chap.

They didn't have a mould to break when they made Murray Montgommery Smith - because he'd been carved into a unique one-off.

Although we'll not see his like again here are two photos of him that say it all.

Murray and Frank McClain inspecting the John MacDonald engine in Andy Garlick's racing +4, Frank is drooling over the twin Webers on the other side of the engine, Murray meanwhile takes notes to use as incriminating evidence. That's Murray's unique Green/Blue +4 on the left of shot and Barry Sumner's 4/4 VMO on the right (sometime in the 1980s).
