Mille Miglia - has a Morgan ever entered or competed?

Post by SimonScott »

I was intrigued to look through the list of eligible cars for the Mille Miglia "recreation".
According to the organisers, a Morgan never entered or competed in the Mille Miglia from 1927-1957.
The official list of eligible cars is here: www.registro1000miglia.it/wp-content/up ... dabili.pdf
That surprised me as there are lots of Jags, MGs, Astons, Austin Healeys etc on the list as well as the obvious Italian marques.
Are the organisers correct? Does anyone know any different? :?:

Hallo Simon,

As far as I know that's correct: there is never been a Morgan in the MM.

From sunny Holland,

Machiel.

I have a faint memory of a couple of Morgan aficinadoes driving a Sunbeam. Was it yellow?
Was it Clarke/Sebba?
Is there a photo of said pair leading a car driven by an ex F! champion? or were the cars stationary?

Three +4 racers entered the MM this year, but as Mogs aren't eligible, they had to take to their other steeds. Adrian and Joanna took their pre war Talbot. Leigh and I took the yellow peril and David Phillips took his beautiful Alfa. We all finished with Adrian making the top 100. A fantastic result. What follows is an edited version written for the Sunbeam club, the photos are by Leigh and Chris Dady"

Was it really 10 years ago?

Peter, the Fiats listed as eligible are numerous and cheaper than most (all) of the others.

Many thanks for all the feedback - reading John's report was fascinating. Belated congrats on your achievement 10 years ago! =D>
We have always dreamt of taking part ourselves. A Morgan seemed an ideal car but sadly that isn't an option. :(
Will have to carefully check the MM regs and then trawl through the classifieds and see what I can find - unless someone out there has any bright ideas!

Hi
I believe the reason a factory entered Morgan never did the Mille Miglia is that Peter Morgan considered it too dangerous!!

Hi Alan,

You are almost correct...

It was Peter's dad who wouldn't let him go!

It's great fun trawling through the list of eligible cars and like John finding one that is left field and affordable!

Aunty Rover anyone...?!!!

Cheers

Mark
