Tony Brooks

Post by SimonScott »

One for Bob to mull over...

With the sad passing of Tony Brooks, there are now no living GP winners from the 1950s.

By my reckoning there are now only two living GP winning drivers from the 1960s… and just eight survive from the 1970s.

Can you name them? :?: No prizes other than smugness!

We are off to Italy at the weekend to see the Nuvolari Museum in Mantua – and some other places as well but they are obviously not as important, although Carol may think differently!!! I will post what I think are the correct answers when I return to these shores.

Well done that man. =D>
Assuming you mean Alan rather than Jack?
To confirm, I believe the survivors are:
1960s: the two Jackies, Stewart and Ickx.
1970s: Emmo, Mario, Alan Jones, Jody, Jacques Laffite, Wattie, Jabouille and Herman the German (Jochen Mass)
Hopefully see you at the BDC
Simon
PS Nuvolari museum in Mantua and Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena a bit tame (Maranello museum better) - but Mille Miglia Museum on outskirts of Brescia highly recommended...

How could you both forget my good friend Mike Wilds ? !!

Never a major league GP driver but was entered in 8 F1 races in a variety of cars ( March, Ensign, BRM, Shadow ) from 1974 to 1976. Failed to qualify in 5 races, started 3, finished 1 ( NC ), and retired from 2 ( both retirements in BRM )

And at the age of 76 he is still a paid race driver in Rainer Becker's Kenwood Porsche 962, and 1975 911 Carrera RSR ( Plateau 6, LeMans Classic, 2022 )

Best wishes to you both, Tim.

Tim, I remeber Mike OK, but he never won a GP, the criteria set by Simon.

Can remember seeing Mike Wilds have a nasty crash in a Ferrari 312T3 at Goodwood FoS a few years back - took both car and driver quit a long time to recover if I recall. But I understand he will be one of the guests making an appearance at the Shelsley Classic Nostalgia event as part of the big BRM celebrations... see you there? :)

Sorry Bob / Simon,

I missed the word "winning" ! Should have gone to Spec Savers !!

Yes, he still hobbles a bit as a result of the Goodwood incident.

Best wishes,

Tim.
