Welcome Morgan Series 1 Owners

Post by John Clarke »

Morgan Series 1 sports cars have not had a dedicated forum before - now they have!

I hope this site will allow owners and enthusiasts to exchange ideas on how to get the best out of these brilliant little cars and to share historic and current stories.

Brakehosepower.net was set up to bring the Morgan racing community together which it has achieved brilliantly. This section is open to all Series 1 owners - not just the racers. Comments are very welcome from owners of Climax and Standard Special engined cars.

Please note, that everyone can read posts on this site, but you must register to post a comment.

Best wishes and a happy New Year

Dear Modest Jack

My mother always remarked that we had two of everything - but you have gone one better. I was aware of the two moss box +8s - but two Series 1!

Whats the gen on the '36 beastie?

Peter firstly you will have to ask Sally...
secondly you will have to ask your Wif...

( you never know you may end up with 2 as well)

Tony ~ great to see a real Mog being used, how many modern tin boxes did you leave stuck in the snow?

Peter ~ the other ploy is simply to buy your Wif a “new” car and then borrow it to go racing, trialing, rallying etc.

It was when we stormed up a steep and very snowy hill past a line of 4x4's out "green lane-ing" that we knew we had the right tool for the job :-)

Hello everyone,
EKE267 First registered 01/07/1937 Chassis No. 343
Bought off eBay, conducting a SLOW rebuild, still sourcing missing components correct for 1937.
Chassis – pre-war cold riveted chassis (under repair)
Engine – original block (frost damaged) replaced by a ‘blank/unstamped’ Morgan 1122cc CC block in the late 1960s, all other bits correct for 1937 (including correct distributor, starter, and dynamo)
Carburettor - Solex 30HBFG
Radiator / brightwork – Lucas LBD148 (converted to EDS)/ FT27 / all correct
Gearbox – original
Axle – Moss Gear BA8 being constructed from parts (BA8A was on car when purchased)
Brakes – will be 8” (currently 9”)
Dashboard / instruments / steering – original
Electricals – original or found, correct for 1937
Windscreen & frame 90% complete, missing details, glass 1937
Wheels 16” rolled edge wheels (x6) c/w Wilmot Breeden hub caps and spinners
Ash frame – 80% discarded due to woodworm damage, lower seatback crossmember kept as stamped ‘343’, scuttle area undamaged.
Seat – original – stamped ‘343’
Panelwork – 90% discarded as incorrect (1950s rebuild), bonnets kept as correct hinge and stamped ‘343’, original AMAL catches.
History – only first owner (S.A.Banfield) and 1960s onwards known, no competition history.
Regards
Bill

That broken half-shaft was at Silverstone during practice for the Birkett 6 Hour (1976 I think) it was my first ever race meeting - I had met Mary just a week before, little did I know what was to follow in subsequent years...

Hence my continued involvement in the 6 Hour, and the origin of my signature 'Skipper' for which Kelvin Laidlaw deserves the credit :)

Have Fun :) :) :)
