Another Find?

"My latest project - 1938 Morgan 4-4 Drophead, with a piddly little 1100 Coventry Climax engine..."

This is taken from an e-mail sent to a small group of motor sport types scattered around the globe, and was included as an 'aside', the chap not knowing of my connection to the World of Morgan.

Would this be of any interest to the Mog historians amongst us? If so I will find out more.

Hi Bob - any new Morgan discovery is interesting to us Morgan types!

The older the better...!

What country is it in?

Looks like it could be the Antipodes?

See you soon?

Cheers

Mark

Australia, Mark! Well spotted. I have advised Greg that he can expect a lot of interest in his project, people who know him tell me he does a very good job, and I know he has worked on cars as diverse as VW and 30/98 Vauxhall.

I will keep you informed and could put you in touch perhaps if he is OK with that.

Spring Start?

Bob.

Hi there,
I think it was EOM498 while in the UK, exported ~1974...
Sister car to EOM491, (both supplied to the agents, Colmore, Birmingham, Dec 1938), once used by George Proudfoot in competitions, now beautifully restored.
Regards
Bill

Hi Bob,

Sounds like you should put Greg in touch with Bill...!

I would very much like to go to Spring start as I am not at Snett.

But I have also been invited to a Christening and an Auction!

See you soon.

Cheers

Mark

Hi,
I have been invited to join in the fun here, by Bob Bull. The 1938 Drophead - EOM 498, of which I am now the custodian, was until recently owned by Bob Bailey. Unfortunately, Bob has had to give up on the project, due to health reasons.
There is quite a bit of work to do, and it will be at least a year before it turns a wheel [or 4 wheels]. Will keep you posted on the progress. Although I am retired - or supposed to be - the metal-work is right up my alley. Fortunately the timber-work has been done.

Wish you well with the project, Drophead Coupes are beautiful cars.
Have been helping a friend rebuilding a late 1939 car research the original specification of the pre-war DHCs.

Bill

Thank you, Bill. As this is my first ever Morgan, it will be a 'steep learning curve'. There will be quite a few questions along the way, and I hope you may be able to help?

When the time comes, it would be good to know the best supplier of parts for the car...such as front shocks, door handles [inner & outer], chrome side moulds, etc.

Cheers, Greg

Well, after patiently waiting its turn, the Morgan is now 'getting some attention'...after 3 years of neglect! :(

Nearly all the mechanicals are done, and the engine is virtually ready to go. Most of the missing parts I have been able to scrounge/make, however to the oil dipstick needs some vital information. Can someone tell me the distance from the top [where the dipstick sits on the block] to the upper and lower level marks :?: The engine is a 1122cc Coventry Climax, by the way.

Cheers,

Greg Mackie

Greg

My pal John Merton who is a lurker on this forum asked me to pass on the following information for you:

On this dipstick the flange on the dipstick knob, an inch down from the top, sits on the top of the tube to the sump. The "high" oil mark is 12 and three eighths down from the bottom of this flange and the "low" mark another inch below this.

Trust this helps you, and please thank John , not me.

Andy
