Out for a nice day in the sunshine with some friends at Goodwood yesterday expecting to drive a very pretty E type and what happens ? I spend the day pushing that Emberson chappies ( very nice ) car around the paddock . I'm exhausted ! I suppose if you own a Morgan you get used to that sort of thing.

I assume that as you were seconded to do the hard labour, Catherine could not have been present, as John usually has 'wifey' doing the strenuous bits.

Yes I was there. I put my back out a week ago and am on 'light' duties so was unable to push the car on my own! Many thanks Jerry, we owe you a beer or two. You never know, now that the starter motor and clutch have expired John may consider an offer for the car you took such a fancy to! (Not seriously though as I like it too much too). At least we had sunshine at Goodwood.

I seem to recall that you have aired the 'back out' ploy on previous occasions. Is this a fresh 'back' or is this a re-occurence of the original problem?

Bob, This is a recurring problem following a bad fall off a horse in my youth (crushed vertebrae). I should know what my limitations are by now but have obviously never learnt. 'Must not lift heavy boxes' should be my mantra. Many thanks for your kind concern all the same but I know that this current episode was entirely avoidable.

Will be back to car pushing fitness by the time we go up to Snetterton on the 12th.

The linguistic query Bob as I haven't met the horse so have not been formally introduced.

The name of the horse was 'AHU' (a persian name for a gazelle). Unfortunately although we had bred her ourselves she was a bit of a handful (hence the name and the bad fall) and when I moved to London from Herefordshire my mother who kept her on for a couple of years found that her unreliable nature was a bit much so she was sold on to someone with a lot more experience.

Peter, I shall try to listen to your good advice but it sounds as though everything will take longer to get done. Bob, I don't think you will need to leap to my aid as John has been extremely solicitous. In fact if I had asked him to move the heavy boxes in the first place, as he would have expected, I wouldn't have been in this situation at all.

Mary, I believe it is paparazzo. Sorry to be pedantic.

Just as I have been concerned for your physical wellbeing, I have recently become increasingly worried about John's reputation, as he has been cast in a pretty poor light in some posts recently. You will understand that I hold Mr Emberson in high regard and would not wish for anyone to garner the impression that he is anything but a loving and solicitious husband, not at all the sort who would endanger your health by forcing you to labour at unsuitable tasks.
Perhaps you may redress the balance by regaling us with tales of visits to the opera and similar cultural treats, that I am sure he has showered upon you. Thus we may restore his reputation as Gentleman John Emberson.
