HSCC Success

Post by Bob Bull »

Will Plant in one of his dad's V8's tied with Dick Coffey (Turner) to end up as joint Champion in the HSCC Historic Road Sports Class, by winning both the final race outright, and securing maximum points in Class 'A' to clinch the title. Going into the race Peter Shaw (Lotus Elan) lead the table three points ahead of Will and Dick, however, when Shaw could only manage second in Class 'C', his fate was sealed. Will lead away from the start, and looked good for the win, however, another Elan crashed on the first lap bringing out a red flag. Once the pieces of Lotus had been swept up and the race restarted, Junior Plant found himself in neutral falling to 8th, and it was left to dad Richard to save the day by passing two leading Elans, and allowing Will to catch-up, then giving the lad room to slip by into the lead. Once in front the Morgan opened a gap back to dad and the two Lotus Elans with Richard frustrating their efforts to chase the leader, before allowing John Davidson's Elan through to take maximum points in Class. Then he only had to keep Shaw behind him and the title was there for Will to take. Bruce Stapleton took fifth place, and Tim Pearce 9th. after being pestered by a trio of Ginettas for the whole race, Jonathon Rushton won Class 'B' in his Plus 4.
