VSCC Silverstone

Post by peter rafter »

Some impressive cars including some old Morgans (and even older drivers) at a fffffffff…freezing but helpfully dry Silverstone. It was so cold that the multiple spectator stands were completely empty.
Clearly the highlight of the whole event was the eye catching (pre war?) overcoat sported by the Consort to the VSCC President which was clearly being given an airing and outing before its triumph at the next Goodwood Revival meeting.
The Morgan races, a rewarding mix of old and new cars (the moss box contingent reinforced by Mr. Plant), were engaging, nay exciting with multiple pirouettes and non finishers with technical problems, but, clean and fair, at least from the rear of the grid, (probably a result of a participating MSA steward in the entry list).
ps
Mr Ahlers is now only 99 wins from staggering 200 Morgan race win record. What a feat.
pps
well done Messrs House, Shears, Tisdell and Sebba in the support races!

Having found a couple of folks to join me for a Saturday eve meal (the Sarge and an ex MSCC comp sec John Goodman) I then suffered Sat night sickness and spent most of Sunday asleep in Discovery so am sorry I couldn’t join in the socialising, watching the Mog races, and congratulating Keith on his century. Just managed to emerge to have a back of the grid joust with Mark Shears in our 1950s race.
Arrived Saturday lunchtime and some impressive VSCC races (including huge Bentley grid with a real Le Mans start) and over the w/e saw masses of Morgan faces old and new – shared a garage with ex Mog racer Peter Horsman who is now the big chief (and often the winner) in GP historic single seaters.

Leigh. Could it be that your sickness was self inflicted? Research has shown that men’s beards harbour more germs (bacteria and bugs that could be hazardous to humans) than dogs carry in their fur. It doesn’t say whether Gillette contributed to the findings.
Note to Mrs E. It could be that recently grown beards may be exempt as the bugs may not yet have had time to germinate.
Eh bien.

for reference. Mrs E was accompanied by an almost recognisable hirsute Mr. E.
Some envy the growing of beards, they represent many (often interposed with manly) attributes, patience, fortitude and stoicism in the face of discomfort.
To each his own.
