Differential Side Gears

Post by Joe Phillips »

Hi Folks,
I broke my 4/4 Differential a few weeks ago at Gurston, and although Tim Ayres has managed to source most replacement parts from the factory, it is proving difficult/impossible to source new Side Gears.
These are the gears which connect to the half shafts and they have 18 internal splines and 16 teeth.
I think they are the same on the +8 and 4/4 with 7HA Axle.
Although the same diff was used in other cars, MGB, Land Rover Defender etc, the Side Gears are not compatible with Morgans.
There does not seem to be any clear info on what axles/diffs are compatible with Morgans, its all folk lore!!.
I am aware Quaife do an LSD (but I dont have the ££LSD) and they are out of stock.
Does anyone have any of these side gears left over from a diff rebuild or upgrade?. or know where I can get some.
Best regards,
Joe Phillips

Joe- have you tried Terry Foxon at GEE? 01453 832 113- if he doesn't have what you need he will know here you can source the parts, good luck,

Hi Joe, I might be able to help if Barry cannot find the side gears, I have various 7ha diffs which have 18 spline side gears and 16 meshing teeth(external). They are now no longer required for my car due to diff conversion. I have them in bits or as a whole unit.I also have some CWPs in 3.76:1 and 4.1:1 ratios , some are metric and some imperial.

HI Joe
I have found two side gears with 18 internal splines and 16 teeth, what I don't have is the small planet gears that go on the diff pin, if the side gears are of use send me a PM
