Race seat expiry date

Post by Mary Lindsay »

I can't find anything in the Blue Book that talks about the requirement for race seats to be in date.
Does anyone out there know what the MSA requirements are? Does a race seat have to be in date?
And before anyone asks, no I am not planning to put one in the Morgan! My query is in the context of another race car altogether.

Mary

My understanding is that each race seat has a date stamp showing the date of manufacture, this is actually pressed into the moulding so removing the label doesent work

For FIA sanctioned events only the seat must not be more that 5 years older than this date but for MSA events in the UK this date is not relevent

For MSA events the dates of seatbelts, helmets and overalls must be within the specified (blue book) dates but seats are not inspected at scrut or specified

The complexity occurs at say Spa at the 6 hour event whcih is a FIA event although the race (Barry SS) that most Mogs enter is actually run to MSA regs---all very confusing especially for the kind chaps form the Belgium ASA

Thanks Andy, that is a relief - our 2CV seat is OK after all!

Funny! I thought they used deck chairs.

But Mary! Surely after Jack's 'accident' last year basic hygiene would require at least a change of seat????

Fortunately it was only the fire extinguisher which discharged into the driver's seat so I think we should be OK. 8-[

I am not sure we need to know that.
