HSCC Silverstone International Trophy Race Meeting

Post by Mark Shears »

The HSCC International Trophy Historic Race Meeting is this coming weekend on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May.

There is a great entry of Plus Fours not only in the Historic Roadsports but also in the Guards Trophy and the GT and Sportscar Cup. In addition there are several Plus Eights entered so a really good opportunity to come and support the historic Morgans after the superb effort of the modern Morgans yesterday and today.

Alas I won't be amoung them as I will be at Badminton Horse Trials where my daughter is competing but the HSCC office have been so supportive that they have sent me 4 complimentary tickets.

I obviously can't use them but would anyone else like to?

Let me know and you can have them.

Cheers

Great showing of proper +4s over the weekend.

Missed Jonathon's excellent drive in the HRS on Saturday but his lap times say it all. Stonking time Jonno (1:46) just pipped by the TR4s or are they TR5s (!!!). Simon King also put in a good performance. Mark Hoble was out in the Guards Trophy again trailing the TR4s. What is it with these TR's??

Sunday was even better with Mark Hoble, Malcolm Paul/Rob Wells, John Emberson/James Wood and Simon OG/Rick Bourne all out in +4s. Simon was debuting the fabulous SLR - what a car!! Rick had a big smile on his face being the only driver I know, who has now raced all 3 SLRs. (By the way Jonathon, the SLR did a best of 1:45 - just shows how quick you were).

In the GTSCC the cars finished in order SLR, +4 (MP), +4 (MH),+4(JE). JE had to bring the car in early with condensor problems.

I should mention that there was a good turnout of +8s. There done it!!! Terrible bad luck for Richard Plant punted into a spin when leading. To be fair, the accident was caused indirectly by an incredibly slow Dino 246 - but that's a controversy to rival politicians expense claims.....and we don't want to go there!! James Paterson won - but that's not news really as Noddy is becoming quite invincible. Should also mention Tony Howard and Ollie Phillips had a good scrap or so I am told.

Good to see Peter Horsman in the Lotus 17 - still beating all comers - well nearly all. Suzanne Shears was also out in her MGB but lost time to being too diplomatic letting multi coloured +8s past. Still, that cup of tea in bed is assured for at least a few more weeks!!!

Great day made even better by Mandy's sponge cake and fresh strawberries.

Great report John - only sorry not to have been there especially after seeing Bobs superb photos.

Just to put the record sraight - it's Suzanne SEARS not Shears! I don't want to be accused of incest next time I am caught giving her a big kiss!

Cheers

Morgan quiz

On Saturday I was strapped in and waiting to go on track when another driver came up to me and said "you are out by 29". Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to the identity of this illustrious Morgan driver ?

Great fun at Silverstone. Good weather, good grub, good company and the car held together for three hours track time over the weekend. That's what it's all about.

Mark,
Many thanks for your kind remarks about my pictures, it is nice to know you, at least, appreciate them.

Both JCC and I have reported on the meeting, however, we all await with bated (OK Chris?) breath a report on the Badminton Horse Trials.
How many were found guilty?
Where did Miss Shears finish?
What was the hospitality like?

Come on man pull your weight.

Hi Bob - unfortunately Laura posted a DNF as the horse went crook half way round the cross country. But the hospitality was good - especially at His Lordships gaff on Thursday evening! (Do you like the Essex colloquialisms?!)

Cheers

Mark,
So, when are we going to get our first glimpse of the +4? I think Brands or Snett would be ideal...
