2005 British GT Championship - Mondello Park 17-18/09/05

Post by Andy Downes »

Hello again everybody - I'm back after a recent heavy workload involving a Morgan, 24 Hours and Silverstone !

No rest for the wicked - or Keith Ahlers, Oliver Bryant, Billy Bellinger and Ian Grimes - the Aero8 is out in the Britsh GT series in Ireland this weekend.

Qualifying on Saturday, followed by a 1 hour race (sprint !) on Saturday and another 1 hour race (sprint !) on Sunday.

A much reduced GT field has made the trip to the emerald Isle and free practice times suggest the best is yet to come from Team Aero this weekend - but as Dailysportscar said - Keith and Oliver can't be short of racing miles !

More later as soon as details start to come though.

Have Fun

From our friends at www.Dailysportscar.com

"Dimitris Deverikos and Piers Masarati won GT3 in impressive fashion. David Ashburn took over the class-leading Porsche from Fred Moss during the driver changes but had no answer to the flying Masarati who was running in sixth overall after taking over from Deverikos.

Andy Britnell and Chris Stockton took second in class after some determined driving from Stockton, who demoted Adam Wilcox before getting ahead of Ashburn.

Ashburn and Wilcox then collided at Dunlop while Simonsen got ahead of Keith Ahlers for third in class. The Morgan’s lack of traction made it a handful in qualifying although Oliver Bryant, who started the car, felt a new set of front tyres improved its speed exiting corners in the race."

So there you have it - lack of traction, let's hope the boys can improve on things in Race 2 tomorrow.

We did just that!

We won after a perfectly timed call for the driver change during a safety car intervention and a great pass by Oliver for first place on the last lap of the race.

Our second win of the season for the Aero8 GT.

Fantasic work guys, both on and off the track, I always enjoy a well thought out tactical success ! Jack spoke to me at Goodwood to tell me the great news.

And from our ever accomodating friends at http://www.Dailysportscat.net :-

"Our strategy worked perfectly," said a smiling Keith Ahlers. "After the safety car we were stuck in traffic, so I came in as soon as I could. That gave Oliver five or six clear laps, when he clawed an awful lot of time back. And he drove brilliantly over the last five laps, closed the gap down and passed him on the last lap - fantastic!"

Fantastic indeed - the final two rounds are at Silverstone October 8th & 9th where Keith will be getting in some early practice for the Birkett 6 hour later that month.

Mondello on TV

Just watched the GT racing on channel 4. Great moves at the end. Looked like some of the others were standing still. I also recorded it if anyone wants the salient seconds I try to compress and email them.
