Aero8 GT @ Zolder Belcar Meeting 23rd Oct 2005

Post by Andy Downes »

The Ahlers Aero8 GT car will be racing again this weekend - at the Belcar (Belgium's version of Britcar !) Meeting at Zolder.

No details yet so I don't know if he's driving solo or who the competition are but I guess many of the Silverstone 24 Hour Britcar Teams will be on track.

More details as soon as I get them - unfortunately this time I shan't be going to spectate !

Practice/Qualifying on Saturday and the Race 15:30 - 17:35 (local time) on Sunday 125 minutes.

Details below with "Thanks" to http://www.Dailysportscar.com

"After the valiant effort at Silverstone, Adam Sharpe Motorsport will be back, with just the one Falcon.

Britsports regulars Michael Christopher and Ian Flux will be fielding their Prosport LM3000, and that car’s designer, Lee Noble, will be racing his latest creation, the Noble M12-2, with Alistair McKinnon. It has been an up-and-down year for the works Noble team, with rapid improvement being thwarted by a major problem at Silverstone.

Porsche, as ever, will be well represented, with regulars Parr Motorsport (Bill Cameron / Kelvin Burt) and 911virgin.com (Henry Firman) being joined by the ubiquitous Team Parker 996, with Gary Eastwood in the line-up, and Dutch Supercar Challenge competitor Keith Butcher, sharing his 996 with Nigel Bowen. Keith Ahlers’ will be bringing his Morgan Plus 8, and looking to notch-up a 94th win in the venerable beast.

Ah, no he won't. Rather than the car he ran in the Britcar 24, Keith is taking his British GT Aero 8...

It’s likely to be a Ferrari / Marcos battle in the GT Cup class, with the pair of Topcats Marcos Mantis, Mick Mercer / Richard Fores in silver, Rupert Bullock / Jon Harrison in blue, taking on the Hargreaves Ferrari 360 of Bo McCormick / Calum Lockie, and the similar Damax car of Craig and Elliott Cole.

Metcalf Motorsport has had a torrid year, a major early-season rebuild of its BMW E30 being followed by the theft of their transporter and all of their equipment just prior to the Silverstone 24 hours. Regular driver Mark Smith will be joined at Zolder by occasional pilot David Cuff, and you can expect this car to be at the sharp end of the Production S1 field. They will be kept honest, though, by the Mardi Gras Honda Integra Type R of Michael and Sean McInerney, and the same team’s Honda Civic, in the hands of mobile phone magnate John George."

Comment below taken from the EERC (European Endurance Racing Club - Britcar) website http://www.eerc.co.uk - interesting points.

"Thank you Zolder, we the EERC will be back...

The track was great ,
VIP Sponsors got FREE HOSPITALITY from THE CIRCUIT ?
the drivers had the same in a separete area , free beer?
The Circuit hire is 2/3rds cheaper than Brands GP.
THE ENTRY FEES WERE CHEAP ENOUGH TO PAY THE FERRY CROSSING
£495.00 for 2hrs 5 mins with 3x 45 min qualifying and 15 min warm up..
The Stewards put themself out to help.
We had our own office at race control.
The food is very good, no Burgers or crap,
They promote Endurance Racing and had 26353 people to watch on the Sunday, and this is controlled by Bar coded tickets/ wrist bands not by hear say more than BTCC and it was £5.00 to get in...
Camping was made available inside the circuit , so the public could stay for the weekend.
Fuel is not £30.00 for 30 litres but £ 15.00 for £30litres...
the hotel with good rooms as per the Brands hotel but not at £140.00 per night it is only £69.00 for 2 NIGHTS for a single in a double with English Breakfast."

Great result Keith.

Sounds like excellent weekend - great value, good long race and the normal terrific hospitality from the Dutch.

I knew that  Thinking of Belgian food and Dutch hospitality and it came out rather more garbled than intended ... I blame the Chilean wine (or was it Argentinian...?)
