LT Hardtop on low line car

Post by Jochem Kentgens »

Hi all,

Anybody know if a standard (Safety Devices) rollbar on a low line 4/4 series V car allows you to put a LawrenceTune hardtop on the car? Or is a Safety Devices rollbar to high and doesnt the top fit over it?

I know that the Brands Hatch Morgans racers (Tok, GWP, XRX) have tailor made rollbars but being in Holland a standard roll bar to order would be easier....

Anybody any experience in this field?

Thanks, Jochem

Hi Jochem,

I have a black Plus 4 with a lowline body - the same as the Series V 4/4 and a Lawrencetune hardtop will not fit over the top of my standard height Safety Devices roll bar.

I have just finished rebuilding an original lowline Plus 4 and have had to have a tailor made roll bar fabricated to allow the Lawrencetune hardtop to fit over the top. I have just posted some pictures of this red car and Richard Plants blue car on the On Track section.

Cheers

Wonderful car Mark!!

Is it a post '66 low line +4?

I will then look around for someone here in Holland who can fabricate a suitable rollbar. It might be wise to buy a Safety Devices rollbar and cut that to fit below at the chassis supports?

or have you started from scratch and just took the shape of the hardtop as leading?

Best wishes, Jochem

Thank you Jochem,

Yes it was the second low line car produced by the Factory.

It may be possible to cut down a standard Safety Devices roll bar but I took the car along to the fabricators (in Banbury, England) who made a custom made roll bar to fit under the hardtop. They also make the roll bars for Brands Hatch Morgans - including the SLRs...

Cheers,

Thanks again Mark, will ask around here and see who can do the job properly.

Have fun with that great looking car!

Hope to be at the TT next year, this year timing is bad unfortunately....

Hi Jochem,

Look forward to seeing you at Silverstone next year! Sorry you won't be at the TT this year as I will have both the black Plus 4 and the red Plus 4 there this year!

If I can help in the meantime let me know.

Kind Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark!

if you could send me some pictures offline of the hardtop fitting and the rollbar inside the car that would be great! no rush but if you are in the garage and you have a camera with you I would much appreciate it!

jochem@cosmicnavigation.com
