Re: Greeting from the Silent Monks
Frantic in the run up to Christmas, my Audi been in the garage for 'servicing' since last Thursday (what will that cost!), John currently on a train but his destination station has been closed for 'Health and Safety" reasons, one son has been in bed for the best part of a week and although had started to feel better complained of feeling sick last night, my washing machine inlet pipe froze yesterday and once defrosted the outlet pipe disconnected itself so had a flood all over the floor, and far too much snow for my liking and more to come (and worse John can't get out cycling so has withdrawal symptoms)!
BUT....
At least we decided to stay at home this Christmas instead of jetting away to sunnier climes, we are within walking distance to all necessary shops so don't need to use the car, have a plentiful supply of bird food and don't rely on heating oil so are warm (My brother and sister in Hereford are having difficulty getting a supply of oil so are huddled next to the Aga with the rest of the heating in the house off!) and the internet is working so received this greeting from Katy.
Positively cheered me up and put me in a festive mood. Thank you Katy. Am now going to decorate the Tree!
Happy Christmas to everyone.
Catherine.

Re: Greeting from the Silent Monks
Yes, thanks Katy - great performance!
Natalia (daughter no 3) drove up from Bayonne (temp 9C) on Friday. Made very good time until she got to Rouen (temp -4C), when it started snowing - heavily. And when she got to the long hill near Neufchatel-en-Bray she said it looked like a war zone - with cars off the road, lorries in the barrier and other lorries jack-knifed. She managed to zig-zag in and out of the stranded vehicles, but then got blocked in some way up - and couldn't get any grip to going again. It took her 5 hours to get over the hill - finally managed it at 2am with a push from a Gendarme...
Happy Christmas all.

Re: Greeting from the Silent Monks
Snow fun is it! Luckily, thanks to snow, I've had all my travel cancelled this week and I'm stuck here and not abroad.
John E, I know the feeling but did see several cyclists out today so no excuses.... don't!
Happy Christmas everyone.

Our son Tom was trapped for 12 hours on the M40 last weekend
Mind he did have
Water
Food
Autosport
sleeping bag
And a girl with him in the car
Got home at 3am just as we returned from the neighbours
happy christmas to everyone

Frantic here in the run up to Christmas.
Beach BBQ last weekend where Santa arrived by speedboat. 30 degrees heat meant that all the sweets for the kiddies melted. Still, plenty of beer in the coolers to keep Santas thirst slaked. Works Christmas do tonight. Lets hope the aircon keeps going or else we will all be passing out with the heat.
Having trouble finding a turkey that isn't frozen though.......
Still, the best part about Christmas in the antipodes is that we have to have asparagus instead of sprouts
Christmas wishes to all (and Bob)
Tim and Jane

Re: Greeting from the Silent Monks
I am a bit concerned that Catherine is eating bird food ?
As Iris would say to me – if all your other cars weren’t quite so stupid it wouldn’t matter if one of them is out of action.
Now – will there be any postings on 25th ?
Cheers everyone

Nice one Katy, which one is you?
The Silent Monks? A rival to the Morgan Tabernacle Choir? (Catherine will understand this illusion - won't she?)
John Emberson not out on his bike because of the snow? The word wimp springs to mind, a bike is an excellent way of getting about in the snow and I speak from extensive experience - including riding to Cambridge from Barnet in February with the roads inches deep in the stuff while taking part in the North London 2 Day Reliability Trial, and on a standard lightweight! Come on Catherine kick him out!
Sons, Daughters, Brothers and Sisters tales of woe for everyone but the respondents it seems.
Nothing like a bit of dodgy road conditions to sort out the men from the boys, and the girls from the girlies, did my bit by teaching a struggling lady how to gain traction on a slope after watching for ten minutes as she slithered and dithered with madly spinning wheels in a car park. Felt very smug, but not as SMUG as our ex-friends out in the colonies! Barbecues on the beach .... Yeah! Yeah!
We will speak further on this subject before long no doubt!
Cheers to all! ( Oh! and Crocodile Tim and Jane of the Jungle.)
Bob.

Re: Greeting from the Silent Monks
It seems that the monks have stolen the panto show - even Bobby has ignored the panto theme in favour of these banner waving upstarts.
They do seem to have attracted some tales of woe
