Le Mans Classic 2006
Le Mans Classic 8/9 July 2006
Any Morgan news on this ?
If anyone knows of a spare seat for an elderly slow driver then I would be interested.
In any event I’ve booked a couple of rooms through Quentin at the hotel on the straight, convenient for spectating at ‘the chicken’ (ask Paul B). If I’m not entered I’ll go to spectate but then one room may be spare if anyone interested.
Happy holidays and all the best for 2006.

Have a look here:-

Go to list des engages.
So far as I can see AdvK and XOV1 have an entry, as do the Kremers in their Plus4. I hope to be there in a Morgan too.

So – what happened…..
6 Mogs –
John Clarke’s Series 1 with Tony Lees, Richard Plant and me driving
Adrian v d Kroft Series 1 with him and Jack Bellinger
+4s – Keith Ahlers (TOK), Adrian + Jack (XOV), Kremers, Rob Wells / Malcolm Paul.
As far as I know all ran well (just a problem with Wells / Paul not getting into first race as reserve). Not seen all the results yet but (and this is on scratch)…..
If you want to beat Keith in TOK you really need a GT40
John is the proud owner of a Morgan that beat an Alfa 8c Monza and, as he might mention to you, the Alfa costs just a little more than the Mog
If you’re lucky Tony will casually mention how he diced with an American who raced in the “realâ€

Just back from an absolutely fabulous weekend.
Well done to all the drivers and pit teams for a brilliant performance - really impressive "Compensed" results never mind the scratch as well!
Oh.... and my bar bill also was double the rest of costs!!

A little explanation for the uninitiated :-
At the Le Mans Classic there are 6 grids each representing a different period - e.g. GRID 1 1923-1939.
Each grid races in sequence for 45 minutes – Grid1 - Grid2 - Grid3 - Grid4 - Grid5 - Grid6.
This continues for 24 hours with each Grid getting 3 Races.
At the end, the 3 race times for each car on a Grid are added together to give an overall Race time and Overall Placings within that Grid.
Finally a ‘fiddle factor’ (index of performance) unique to each car is applied to the overall Race times to give a ‘Handicap’ Winner for each Grid – thus any of the cars in the Grid could win on handicap.
Anyway, Results Placings Summary (with apologies for the formatting) below :-
GRID 1 1923-39
Morgan Series I – Van der Kroft/Bellinger Race1 28th – Race2 21st – Race3 22nd – Overall 25th - Handicap 5th
Morgan Series I – Sebba/Plant/Lees Race1 44th – Race2 43rd – Race3 41st – Overall 39th - Handicap 16th
GRID 3 1957-61
Morgan +4 – Van der Kroft/Bellinger Race1 15th – Race2 13th – Race3 10th – Overall 11th - Handicap 2nd
Morgan +4 – Paul/Wells Race1 N/A – Race2 17th – Race3 14th – Overall 50th - Handicap 45th
GRID 4 1962-65
Morgan +4 – Kremer/Kremer Race1 27th – Race2 21st – Race3 17th – Overall 14th - Handicap 11th
Morgan +4 – Ahlers Race1 13th – Race2 17th – Race3 14th – Overall 8th - Handicap 5th
Hope that helps !
Have (Le Mans) Fun – we did !
