Evans Waterless Water

Post by Mike Meredith »

Hi,
Does anyone use Evans Waterless water in competition? I was thinking of putting it in but looking at the Talk Morgan forum, no one seemed overly convinced and someone said it was as bad as oil if it leaked onto the track.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

I have made enquiries with one or two who might not regularly check BHP. Hopefully someone will be able to advise.

There was a lot about it a few years ago and I think Mathew Wurr may have used it or had some association with it. More recently there were articles / letters in Octane Mag about it – with mixed feelings. I will see if I can find them

Thanks all for putting the feelers out. Any feedback would be appreciated. I'll give Northants a call and see what they say.
It stems from a potential overheating that may or may not be there. Pre-Covid, my temperature gauge was showing very hot after only a short run. Tried swapping senders, still doing it. Put a radiator cap with a gauge on it & that showed a reasonable temperature. Having connected my PC to the ECU, the ECU gauge is showing lower than the rad gauge. Currently, I have the ECU showing 82 deg, the rad gauge showing 85, and the standard gauge showing v high. If I put the fan on the gauge comes down to hot. Tried different sender units, a different gauge (all electrical). Now thinking of using a mechanical gauge. Any thoughts?

very obvious question but have you checked the voltage stabiliser, they can throw up all sorts of misleading info

I wouldn't use the waterless coolent to mask a potential fault. I'd get to the cause of the problem, then when it's fixed have a look at the waterless coolent.

Barry, thanks for your suggestion, the voltage regulator was indeed the cause of the faulty gauge.

I would still be interested in any feedback on the Evans waterless water.

IMHO, it's a total scam.
Banned in the US for racing.
It set fire to my engine!

Which only goes to show that hiding an underlying problem is bound to lead to fireworks :)

Mike,
I have emailed you with copies of a couple of articles that Leigh found in Octane magazine some time ago. Did they reach you?

Hi Mary, yes, thanks for the articles, I've sent you a reply.
Having sorted the faulty gauge thanks to Barry, and considering Tony's experience and the lack of any positive feedback I think I'll steer clear of it. With the gauge working, I'll see how much of a problem it really is.
Thanks all for your assistance and comments.
