Subject: Zandvoort race weekend

Greetings to all,

As there is no Le Mans Classic for 2007 we thought we ought to have a substitute.

The obvious one is the British Race Weekend at Zandvoort 7-9 September. For those too young to remember Zandvoort was the venue for the Dutch Grand Prix, set amid sand dunes close to the sea.

Unfortunately hotel accommodation has been almost as hard to find as it is for the Classic, but we have managed.

This is in the NH Zandvoort hotel (see http://www.nh-hotels.com select The Netherlands as country, and Zandvoort as city, for details of this hotel).

The second misfortune is that all standard rooms in the hotel have been taken (we suspect by the circuit itself – but cannot be certain about this). All they can offer us are thirty de-luxe rooms, and ten de-luxe rooms with seaview.

We have calculated various package prices, the basic being provisionally set at £500 for two people:

Three nights B&B (shared twin or double room)

Evening meal Sunday night (this will be a special ‘end of tour’ type meal)

Event tickets

Channel crossing by P&O Dover Calais

Various alternatives are available, including:

Extra nights at the hotel (We expect some will like to arrive on the Thursday, to enjoy all of the Friday action – we understand practice starts then). We would suggest we include a meal for that night – add £135 for the room and meal for two.

Travel Harwich/Hoek outbound overnight with standard cabin and breakfast, daytime return – add £103

Travel Hull Rotterdam overnight with standard cabin in both directions – add £110

Travel via the Tunnel – but their price structure is so complicated it is difficult to give a ‘standard’ supplement – but if departing at around 05h55 on Thursday or Friday this would add around £15 to the deal, if departing between 06h01 and 13h59 it would add £60.

All of the above assume a stay of not more than five days on the Continent, the ferries can be arranged for longer, though this does increase the price.

Seaview rooms will add £11.00 per night to the package price. If anyone prefers these let us know, otherwise it will be a case of ‘when the others are gone it’s that or nothing!’

We have to confirm (and pay a deposit) to the hotel by early next month. So if anyone wants to join the party let us know now.

This tour is of course, being operated by the MSCC as a bonded tour operator, full details of booking conditions etc will be advised before any booking is accepted.

Best wishes

Quentin

more info - in case anyone else is going ...
Cheers, Tony

Quentin at the MSCC Travel Office has been able to give some very good advice to members wanting to travel to Zandvoort (or other overseas events). He has also arranged the ferries for two groups travelling to the June LM24 Heures du Mans, and may have a couple of ferry slots left.

In all cases contact him directly on: travel@hopmog.co.uk or by telephone on 01306 742326

But if during the period 14 – 18 Feb don’t expect an answer straight away, he hopes to find out the date of the 2008 Le Mans Classic next week, so will go straight down to Sarthe to secure even more rooms for the MSCC party at that event.
