2005 British GT Championship Castle Combe Rounds 8 & 9

Post by Andy Downes »

Castle Combe Sat/Sun 25th - 26th June 2005

The British GT Championship roars back into action at Castle Combe this weekend. No Enry List yet but the Aero8 will be there - Keith giving up the Peter Morgan Memorial meeting at Mallory on Sunday.

After its double-podium at Thruxton last time the Aero8 is now running with 50 kg of 'success' ballast (30kg for the win and 20kg for 2nd). Maximum ballast is 60kg and it is retained until you fall out of the podium positions - so let's hope they keep it !

More as we get towards the weekend.

Thanks for the posts, Andy.

Difficult weekend. Did not start Saturday's race owing to a flywheel problem in qualifying. Midnight rebuild saw us into Sunday's race but we struggled with 50kg of ballast and finished sixth.

Another time..................

My apologies for the lack of posts - busy weekend, down to Castle Combe on Saturday (Aero 8 in bits), then all day at Mallory for the Peter Morgan Memorial Race Meeting - just fantastic !

Keith, at least you can take some of the ballast out now...

Qualifying

From http://www.Dailysportscar.com

"The Morgan meanwhile was in trouble. Keith Ahlers explaining: “The engine cut out on my first flying lap so we didn’t get a time in the second session. We have no idea what it is at the moment, just running through the diagnostics and hoping we can get Oliver out there for this evening’s race.â€

Andy – shame your private plane was out of action or you could have popped down to Dijon Sat eve and seen three Plus 4s cross the line together to take first three places in Class in the Gentlemen Drivers 90 minute race. Am glad to say that in the pre – war race the John Clarke 4/4 retained all four wheels but unfortunately had little opposition in the back of the grid club
