As a final flourish, so to speak, and your mention of the Land's End- my father was a triallist in the thirties, and as keeper of the family photographs, I have photos of him, and his cups, from taking part in 1934/5/6 in the major trials of those years either in Morris' or MGs. He used ro race a boat on lake Windermere, too, but as a lad I pushed the wrong button one day and it blew up. Ooops
