(6 MOG) +8 Lightwieght information/history

Post by GeorgeMartin »

Not sure if this is the best place to post this but here goes anyway.

I'm interested in buying an older Morgan, the one I particularly like is a Black +8 lightweight for sale currently by a repeatable dealer. My question is does anyone know any off the history for this car. It’s a 1976 lightweight the last registration plate was 6 MOG.

Any information and help would be gratefully received.

I want the car for regular use as well as the occasional entry into the Morgan Challenge!

Regards,

George

Have you asked Hermen Pol?
He has a fantastic archive of information on Morgans.
If you want contact details for him send me a private message.

Are you referring to Barnie Gowar's (formerly?) Lightweight. Red brakes drums?

Hi George - I presume it is THE George Martin ex Tiptree ?
The lightweights were a limited edition run of 25 (?) cars and although not all that special do have a certain desirability. I think this one was owned by Pete Askew and is featured in various Mog books. But I don't know it's recent history.
Philip McKelvey has one that he races in HSCC

Thanks for your replies but the car has since been sold so its back to the hunt.

Cheers,

The Ex Barney Gower Lightweight is now in the hands of Joachim Von Radecke who intends to compete in the near future.
Joachim came along to the HSCC Brands meeting in September with the car which is looking in good order.
For the records the production run was of 19 cars only, 1 LHD. Barney kept a log of 'traceable' cars of which I think he had details of 12.
It will be good to see another in competition, but it does mean I will lose my claim as having the only Plus 8 sports lightweight in regular competition use.

It was good to meet Joachim at Brands, 70’s Road Sports seems to be his goal for next year but the car looked far too nice to race =D>
