Bumper Entry for VSCC ‘Spring Start’

The Vintage Sports-Car Club ‘Spring Start’ event at Silverstone traditionally heralds the start of the International Historic Racing Season and quality grids of Historic and Vintage Racing cars attract a large number of enthusiasts to the Northamptonshire circuit on the last weekend in April.

This year’s event takes place this coming Saturday, 25 April and in this, the VSCC’s 75th Anniversary Year, has attracted a bumper entry with full grids for all of the headline races.

Following high demand from racers, the Club has incorporated a double header for1950s Sports-Cars into the eleven race programme. In the 50th anniversary year of the DBR1 Le Mans 1-2 victory, Wolfgang Friedrich’s example is a very welcome addition to two grids of cars representing all of the iconic 50s Sports-Car manufacturers including Maserati, Ferrari, Allard, Kurtis, HWM, AC, Jaguar, Lister and Lotus to name but a few.

The Rothschild and Patrick Lindsay Trophy Race, sponsored by V12 Telecom, will see the front running ERAs of Mark Gillies and Mac Hulbert taking on David Wenman and Stephan Rettenmaier’s Maserati 250Fs whilst Alexander Boswell (Ferrari 625) and Richard Atwood (Aston Martin DBR4/4) add to the quality of this special field.

The Historic Grand Prix Cars Association are fielding a full grid of front-engined and rear-engined Pre-1966 Grand Prix Cars displaying the finest from this nostalgic era.

Fans of Pre-war Sports-Cars will not be disappointed by a full grid for the Fox and Nichol Trophy Race, sponsored by H&H Sales Ltd. This popular event has attracted entries from Talbots, Bugattis, Maserati, Invicta, Riley, Alfa Romeo and HRG to name but a few.

There will be a 3 litre Sunbeam display and parade, these cars gathering to commemorate a three-lap race between the Bentley 3 litre models and the Sunbeam Motor Car Company 3 litre cars that took place at the Bentley Drivers Club Silverstone meeting sixty years ago.

As well as racing there are off-track activities including over twenty Trade Stands, a Vintage Car Park and free paddock access for spectators. Under 16s have free entry, and entry per person is only £10 on the gate.

The action gets underway from 9.00am with morning practice followed by the first event at 11.45am, The High Speed Trial for Pre-war Sports-Cars.
