Centenary Race - the Tucker Trophy

Post by John Clarke »

by Guy Loveridge

I am trying to organise a Morgan Centenary race, to compete for the "Tucker Trophy" at Brands Hatch on the Saturday of the Masters Festival Meeting. It will be sponsored by Coys and is for ALL 4 wheeled Morgans pre 1970. Thus, 4/4, +4 and +8, as well as SLR, if any should be tempted out.

I need help to get a grid of 20 cars.

Please email me to register your interest on - GJCL69@aol.com

Please note, the Masters Festival takes place 22-25 May on the Brands Hatch GP circuit.

That's going to get me in trouble at home as I guess it's almost compulsory for my ex-Tucker car to participate but it also happens to be Catherine's birthday which I promised to keep free & we're supposed to be at Castle Combe on the Monday for the Morgan Challenge.................... #-o

Bob,
Maybe I could tell the "Team Manager" one of your jokes which seem to be gradually wearing Mary down into ranking you alongside Jack in her affections or resort to the old bottle of champagne ruse you taught me............

John,
Do you think the lure of being interviewed by a major news corporation on her birthday would do the trick? It is certainly cheaper than champagne.

Did you hear about the lovesick decorator? He couldn't control his emulsions.

Polly the Parrot was sick of being compared to footballers.

The French ventriloquist failed to appear. He got a frog in his throat.

If these fail send PM for joke about nun in taxi.

Best of luck,

Bob

Now John, how do you know where Jack ranks in my affections?

Oh, now for the good (?) news, Class Red are very interested in this Centenary race and I have already emailed Guy Loveridge to register that.

Mary,

It would be an honour & a privilege to race with Club Red in RU. However, surely the "handicapping" system would have to make sure the actual Tucker car won..............I'd say I probably would need about a 3 lap headstart

What John is not letting on is that he has already arranged the birthday celebrations with a trip to see Roberto Alagna sing at Covent Garden in the evening. So I hope the race isn't too late in the afternoon as there is now going to be another race to get to the opera in time especially if there is to be champagne (please note John) before the performance.

As to your jokes Bob, like Mary I am unmoved by them. After nearly half a life listening to John's jokes I have ceased to be impressed at how bad some can be. Not prepared either to be corrupted by Nuns in taxis either.

Just to clarify, Saturday 23 is the Top Hat meeting on the Indy circuit. The 24/25 Masters Festival meeting is on the GP circuit.

So I guess that means the Morgan race will be on the Indy circuit?

The Top Hat series is on the Indy circuit on 23rd May. The Masters Festival is on the GP circuit on 24-25th May.

Please see http://www.themastersseries.com/Race-Me ... mation.htm

We will have to wait for clarification from Guy Loveridge - suggest that all those interested make sure that they contact Guy as the race is dependent on at least 20 entries. Fingers crossed its on the GP circuit!!!

Easy solution John – it is compulsory for your car to take part in the race – but it is not compulsory for you to be the driver………

(Is that a subtle enough hint from me ? - or if you want the car to do well I’m sure a few other names could be found for the hot seat – as it’s a 100 years you may even get Mr Morgan himself)

I do of course still have the 1969 4/4 I raced in early 1970s – but not sure it would pass scrutineering – one or two new regs since those days I believe.
