Peter,
I don't know the woman, I have never played tennis with her, or any other sport, indoor or outdoor. Does she live in Essex under a non de plume?

I am wary of any further comment a sit is April 1st.!!!!!!!

Very impressive Peter, I knew OF the poem, but could never have quoted from it!

You know I do wish I had thought of posting an April Fool's item here earlier, it might have stirred a few people from their torpor, had they read about the arrest of Mark Shears for some heinous crime, or about the demise of the Morgan Motor Company, or the relaxation of VAT on motor cars or some such ploy.

Of course none of the above are true although I am not too sure about the first ...........

Jerry,
Culinary matters are not in my brief (apart from sampling hospitality where ever possible), so I can only suggest that some person more suited than myself should chip in, as I am sure to make a complete hash of it.

Bob.

How long before the season gets underway???????????????????????????

Very whitty Mary, but I must say that my day has been spiced up since hearing that Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been disqualified from the results of the Australian Grand Prix for 'misleading' the stewards of the meeting!!!!!

Seems like they are up to their old tricks again. A Trulli awful story.

No Fan Bob.

Yes - a shame, as Hamilton had a brilliant drive to get that far up the field from the back of the grid. But if what was said, or not said, to the Stewards caused another driver to be unfairly penalised to his advantage then that doesn't say much for him or the team. Disappointing.

Bob Lets forget about the tennis racket ..... do you still have the old racing bike, and what sort of condition is it in?

Based on the details you provided of your sporting past how about a 100 m sprint against some of the 1960's period +4 racers at one of the race meetings coming up. The bike would have to go through scrutineering of course!

I reckon that a podium place would be possible although I wouldnt dicount the odd appeal!

..who would presumably have to go through scrutineering to check they have all the correct period appurtenances - long sideburns, droopy moustaches, flares, hipsters, platform shoes, tightly waisted shirts and jackets, etc.

Leigh springs to mind for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on...

If there's a book on the cycle race I am betting on Mr Emberson as the winner.

I was initially going to suggest running a book but maybe we could wait for Bob's advice on that one. He may perhaps suggest odds re various potential competitors!

Robin,
Are you a registered sadist or was this a flash of inspiration?

In my day I had quite a useful sprint and would have relished such a competition, however, the passing years have greatly increased the amount of weight I carry around and I fear the amount of ballast that would have to be added to a Morgan would be rather costly. Unfortunately my 'Don Farrell'* is long gone and the only steed available is grandson's mountain bike, which is not much use in a sprint, so sadly I must decline to participate. Now if it were tenni .......

A fit racing cyclist can achieve quite high speeds and over a long distance can often match a car, if the driver stops for lunch!

Yeah! Yeah! No chance, my money is on Catherine.
