Oy! Leigh!,
I am not sure that I care for the inference in this remark. Let me say that I never failed a drugs test ........ or won a race, or finished on the podium, rarely got in the top ten, and even then in a fairly small field, in other words IF I were using artificial aids, they weren't working. Mind you I did try Dexstrosol tablets. Does that count?
I ang you, playmates.
You've lost me there, is this some sort of cycling slang?[/quote]

Catch phrases, Mary, you are MUCH too young to know.
Mary Lindsay wrote:1. If you only vaguely recall the incident, does this mean that you and Bob were on the same substance?
I trust I have cleared this matter up?

Lance Bull.

In a, probably vain, attempt to clear Leigh's good name, I would point out that Totteridge Lane was where the local rich lived, and was not the sort of area for casual liasons of a more sordid nature, even for Morgan drivers and I quite certain that Mr Sebba can provide an explanation for his presence there.

Anyway! Perhaps it me he saw, I might well have muttered something complimentary.

Was his the house with the 'Green Door' ?

Could it be, Jack that you are beginning to realise that the famous people lived in Barnet and the hobbledehoy element in East Barnet ?

Amongst us famous types were Tony Jacklin, Lord Barber, Rivers-Fletcher and Mark Blundell to name but a few. Or perhaps they were all me in disguise, who can tell.

By-the-by, Jack you can not tell from the photo, but the hat you noted carried the legend O R M A, but I have no need to tell you what it means, do I ?

Hello Sailor!

Bob – I hope to actually appear in person at BDC Silverstone on 8th August when we can have a full and frank discussion about Totteridge and Barnet and bicycles.

I will then to go on to Snett that evening to continue the discussion with Jack in between his endeavours in the 2CV.

And I think Hank was commenting on the car – which is 40 years old this year.

Leigh,
No doubt our conversation will be cultured, urbane and thoroughly civilised, however, I do not give much for your chances at Snetterton with Jack the tintinabulationist!!

I might have a copy of the 'Handy Book of East Barnet Slang for Beginners', that may be essential if you are to get anything atall from the meeting.

Regards,

Bob.

tintinabulationist
Bob, I hate to be pedantic (as always) but I do not think that this is a word but is just something you have created.
Tintinnabulation is the sound of bells ringing. A campanologist is the person who does the ringing. There is also the problem of your apparent dyslexia because Bellinger does not have two letters R which would make it Bellringer.
Otherwise that was quite a witty contribution............

Oh! Yeah! I bet you really hate it.

However, point 1. Agreed I made it up, I just thought it was a nice word that should exist. Point 2; Jack himself (no less) has on this very forum informed us that his name is derived from 'bellringer'! His ancestors had the job of warning the nation of would be invaders, such as the Vikings, the Romans and William the Conquerer by ringing bells.
Funnily enough one of my ancestors was the last person King Harold spoke to at the battle of Hastings, he said, "Mind what you're doing with that bow and arrow, you'll have someone's eye out in a minute!"

I don't know if Jack is an Anologist, but I'm sure he is camp.

And you accuse ME of dyslexia?

Not that I wish to be ped..........!

Not sure what you mean here Bob, could you elaborate on the spelling issue as I am obviously too dyslexic to understand?

Sadly not Bob, I was at Mallory on Sunday but the car was suffering from a self-imposed rev limit which made the racing very interesting. We need to investigate further before racing again.

Mary, mavoureen,
I probably misunderstood your meaning, I thought you were suggesting Bellrringer, assuming Estuary English no doubt.

You know me .. always rushing into print without checking my facts.

I hate to apologise again ...but!

Sorry to hear of your problems at Mallory Towers, why not write to Aunt Lindy?

Love,
Bob.
