Awards for the 2009 season

Post by Richard Smith »

Yes, it is getting close to totting up the points time. Please let me know if you have taken part in any events that are not race or sprint, for instance track days, CTs etc that I may not know about. Or if you have helped organise one of the events that qualify you for championship points.

If your car qualifies for entry into the Quarter Century Cup, please let me know otherwise this will be one trophy that will not be awarded in February 2010. :^o

Talking of which, there will be two places held for a short while for winners of all the trophies, please, please make every effort to be at the Awards Dinner, and if you are being re presented with a pot following the speed and race series dinners, then, please also try to be there. Lots of MSCC members want to woop woop =D> your efforts in the cause of entertainment.

Sadly, I am not in contention for any pots this year :( But there again, you never know, I make the rules!

easy answer is that you all are at the moment! Got some adding up to do. Will let all winners know as soon as I can. BUT, I have NO-ONE who has actually registered their interest in the quarter century cup [-X

Well JEK qualifies for the cup but I have only done one race at Brands and one at Mallory this year.

Any chance of running a championship listing in Miscellany every couple of months so that it encourages competition?

<<<running a championship listing >>>

I agree, would be a nice idea, if I had a bit more spare time!

When I was Awards' Secretary I regularly posted an interim championship list in Miscellany. There was even a mid season award. This took quite some time to complete in prehistoric pre-computer days, but it certainly made the championship much more keenly fought after. Racers even ended up doing trials in their bid to well. There were quite a lot of allrounders. Barry Sumner, Murray M-S, Bob Northover and Dave Sapp are some of the names that come to mind. For several years the overall winner did at least one race, one hillclimb and the club trial.

I remember that Kelvin, it certainly kept people interested and it made the other club members aware of the fact that awards are being competed for.

Setting up the database would take some time but once that is done it ought to be relatively straightforward to keep it up to date.

Maybe Chris Acklam might be able to suggest a system? The Morgan Challenge and I think the speed championship both have up to date information - maybe something could be borrowed from these?

I don't know how the awards are calculated but, for the ones based on the results from the race and sprint series, a simple spreadsheet may be easily viewable on the web (as html, pdf or a cloud document). Happy to help, if required.

the awards are calculated on an xl spreadsheet, and are taken from (a) race results posted on this site and (b) from the sprint results sent to me, plus from those who are not sprinters and racers by contacting me directly. HTH
