Plus 4 Redux

I understand that the ex-Bill Wykeham Plus 4 (the light blue car) has been bought by a Norfolk farmer (no, not that one) and will be out racing next year. Good news.

Happy New Year Chris!

That is good news - didn't take long to sell. Any clues as to who ''the Norfolk farmer'' is?

I understand 'Choc Ices' has not sold, but I think the ex: David Threadington Plus 4 Richard Thorne has had for a while has sold - tbc.

Are you coming to the unofficial Plus 4 drivers lunch on Sunday?

Cheers

Mark

Happy new year to everyone too.

Sadly I can't make the lunch on Sunday - but thanks for including me as an unofficial Plus 4 driver. Have fun.

I suspect the new Plus 4 owner will be along to introduce himself shortly...

Hi everyone and Happy New Year to you all! I wasn't sure if Chris was taunting me to register and post or trying to keep the rest of you guessing, but as the cat is out of the bag I had better come clean.

'Norfolk farmer' is very complimentary but 'retired' more accurate, but I do live close to that real farmer with the red and yellow V8 machine......

If you havn't got a clue who I am, I first got involved in this historic race stuff watching James P and helping at races where I could. I'm the tall skinny one. Then in 2007 decided to have a go and built up my blue Gilbern GT FIA car, which has got quicker over the last 3 seasons, and has been known to trouble the odd Plus 4 on occasion! I also built and raced last season a Gp2 Mk1 Escort RS1600, but we won't talk about that here.

Having been on the edge of Morgan racing for a few years, I confessed on more than one occasion that I would love to own an FIA spec Plus 4, but cost and rarity got in the way. I saw LSK 688 (the car we are talking about!) racing 3 times last year and thought it looked great with it's pale blue with black wheels colour scheme. It also seemed to be competitive with PBE or Colin Pearcy driving!

It came as a big surprise to see the car advertised for sale last month, so I had to enquire the price. That my offer was accepted came as another surprise. #-o

So here I am with another car to race! Not giving up on the other 2, but as LSK 688 (or 'Blue' as temporary nickname) will fit into other race series hoping to enjoy visiting some new circuits and returning to favourites. Am sure will be racing in a Morgan race or two if allowed!

Here's to the 2010 season! :O:

Hi Mike,

That’s great news and welcome to the very friendly Morgan world I always knew you were keen on Morgan’s but didn’t realise you were that keen. I look forward to racing against
you again in either the HSCC or Masters plus any other events in my Plus 4 you have bought a quick one.

Keep us all posted on what events you are planning to do. =D> =D>

Kind regards

Richard

Thank you Mark, Richard and all others who have looked at this thread. Having watched you all racing, and been made welcome on the occasions that I have, am sure will have great fun in the Plus 4- which, for me, is what Historic racing is all about!

Off topic, Richard, but hopefully the mods will be nice to a newbie  , have entered 2010 Tour Brittania with James P (probably in something less valuable than LSK!), so am sure will be after some advice!

Regards, Mike

As the navigator my advice to whoever is the navigator (and you may be sharing the roles) is

1 Have absolute trust in the driver =D>

2 Close your eyes during the ‘stages’
(particularly if they repeat the 2 laps of Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough) 8-[

3 And, more practically, make sure you don’t make any silly errors on map reading, timing, etc which was not all that complicated but we beat some pretty serious racers as they picked up unnecessary penalties.

As for car, Richard’s +8 with hardtop seemed great to me.

(Sorry – seemed to have strayed off the topic of 4 cylinder Morgans)

Just navigated to this site searching for LSK688. I hope he is still going well. I built him for Bill several years ago.

Great Site too.

Thanks

Dave

Dear friends,

if you are talking about an unofficial+4drivers lunch on Sunday, what Sunday do you mean. Coming Sunday? In the Malvern area? What;s the location? Is that for foreigner +4 drivers as well?

Please, keep me informed: machielkalf@ziggo.nl

Thanks, Machiel Kalf.
