1952 and 1962 Morgans at Le Mans Footage

Post by John Clarke »

Pathe have updated their web site and you can now see wonderful period footage from some of the greatest sporting events of the past 100 years.

In 1952, Rob Lowrie entered a flat rad +4. You can catch glimpses of the car in the news clip before its demise with piston/valve failure

Then of course, in 1962....well I don't need to say any more. Clip here

If like me you are wondering whether you really saw the Morgans, then click on "Stills" below the viewer and select Stills every 1 second. To see the '52 flat rad, it is best seen at 52 secs. TOK can be seen at 10 secs going up the hill under the Dunlop bridge.

Unfortunately, I cannot find anything from '38 or '39 but the hunt goes on!

You've done well to find this John!

I particularly like the 1962 footage as it compliments some film Janes father took when he was managing a 2 car team of Osca sportscars at Le Mans that year. They were only a few pit places away from pit 29 (the Morgan team) as they were sandwiched between the Abarth Porsches and Briggs Cunninghams entries.

I have some film of TOK at the finish which dovetails very nicely with some of the footage taken by Richard Shepherd Baron and seen on his DVD.

Good luck with the pre war footage!

Cheers

Mark
