SLR Fest 16th May Silverstone

Post by John Clarke »

All the Mog SLRs will be fighting over the same inch of tarmac at the HSCC Silverstone meeting on 16th May.

The Bellingers have been entrusted with Keiths SLR (ooo errr), Rick and Simon in the red beasty and John E and Bill W in the silver arrow.

Can't remember when all three cars had a scap on UK soil - I'm sure somewhere out there can jog my memory

Should be a race not to be missed.

More +4s are out the previous day in the Historic Road Sports and Guards Trophy. For full entry list see here http://www.hscc.org.uk/resources/Provis ... 0%20V1.pdf

And I thought May was going to be a bit dull..............................

To the best of my knowledge the three Morgan SLRs have never all raced in the same race or indeed been together at one meeting.

This weekend is therefore a first in 47 years!

Wish I was there to see it.

Have fun,

Keith.

Some more photos taken before the start of the boys in the pit garage - all were a bit nervous - John about the driver change.......

Image

Simon about his engine .........

Image

and Jack on how the chip of his old block could be so many seconds per lap quicker than the old man....I won't say how many seconds!!! Jack was so embarrassed that he couldn't bring himself to appear in the photo - so talking hemets will have to do

As for the results - it went green, red, silver. But that doesn't really matter, so here's some more shots

What a great shape Mr Lawrence...

I must say that it was an honour & privilege to have taken part in this unique event. We were all worried that Simon & Rick wouldn't make it when they had engine problems during testing & qualifying but then the vagaries of motor racing occurred during the race when they were fine but we went out with a suspected blown head gasket. Anyway, it was very exciting when all three were out on track especially for us when Bill was just ahead of Rick before our engine went. Anyway, it was great to see the Bellinger's go down in history as the winners when the three SLR's finally raced together & we were especially pleased for Jack who looked really chuffed (was it for winning or for how fast Billy went.....)?

It was great to see so many people there for the race, much appreciated!

A weekend of drama far more interesting and less political than that which seemed to be going on in Monaco....

It was as John says an amazing experience to be a part of. credit goes to everyone for making it happen - to John for getting the silver steed back into racing faster than new owners normally manage, to Rick for getting the fastest lap in the race (by 0.015 second), to Billy for a qualifying time which will be everyone's target for the future, and to all three teams for great generosity in lending each other things all the way through the weekend. at different points we thought there might be anything from zero to three of the cars out.....and then all made the grid.

We look forward to a return match when all three both start AND finish!

Simon's dramas, the box of beer is upside down which might explain things!!

Image

Billy is not just a great driver!!!
Image

Rick looks either guilty or releived, I don't know which.

Image

Jack looks ................... well like Jack!!

Sorry I could not be there for the great race, but well done to all concerned.

Yes aren't they great. It was a really good weekend and the weather was very kind to us all.

Also a nice photo of the three SLR’s on page 91 of this week’s Auto Sport. Sorry I couldn’t have been there to watch or take part in the 70's Road sports race but the Plus 8 is still poorly!!! from all accounts it was a great weekend all round with James Patterson taking an overall win with his Moss Box Plus 8 in the Historic road sorts race =D>

Regards

Richard.
