Simon you mention Chris Amon;

At Spa in 1954 Fangio took pole position in a 250F Maserati (prior to joining Mercedes), and I can still recall Denis Jenkinson's description of the car when Juan came back to the pits. Oil dripping from the engine, smoke pouring from the brakes the car enveloped in heat haze. He concluded that Fangio had extracted every last drop of performance from the car.

Some at Ferrari once said the when Amon brought his car back to the pits everything was perfect, he had not over used anything. A fast and talented driver, but the difference between the two is the difference between a fast driver and a multiple World Champion.

Funny the things that stick in your mind over the years.

PS re Ricardo Zunino...
In the words of EW Swanton he apparently failed to trouble the scorer --so by my reckoning he is part of the answer to Q 21
ps
Frank Gardner (remember him) and Nigel Mansell (he with the permanent rampant overgrown movember) were both accomplished golfers..one of Bobs pointless games with a ball and a stick..
pps
20 in my village cricket period was a big score
pps Hunt and Sheckter played against Lord's Taverners but not at Spa

It would seem Dear Peter, that according to your own admission there would be no need for a scorer at all, at least not when you were 'in' awaiting to be 'out'. :lol:

Dear Bob
Re Zunino: My copy of the F1 Bible 'Jacques Deschenaux Grand Prix Guide' is the 1950-89 edition - didn't know it was still produced...But inside mine it says it includes "only those drivers who have finished a Grand Prix in the points once in their career" - if that is still the case that would be why Zunino does not appear...and why Zanardi, Zonta and Zorzi all did You really must be more careful with the wording of your questions!!! What connects;
Farina
Rouen
Bob Swiekert
Ascari
Jack Brabham
Alfa Romeo
John Zink Special
Brabham Repco
Jenson Button.

I see that this puzzle was never solved;

Farina won the tenth round of the F1 WC
Rouen was the 10th circuit to hold a round of the WC
Bob Swiekert was the 10th person to win a round
Ascari was the first 10 times winer.
Jack Brabham won the 10th WC
Alfa Romeo were the first marque to win 10 races
JZ Special was the 10th marque to win
Brabham Repco won the 10th constructors title
Jenson Button was the 10th UK WC.

Easy was n't it?

There were only 9 '10th's' Mary, although you might say the excitement was in tenths.

If not ten tenths you weren't trying hard enough!

I quote from the original definition; "Ten tenths is the entire CID pursuing dangerous motor bandits, all in Ferraris, invariably ends in a crash." This may not be precise but is close.
