Awards: Taylor Cup

Post by Richard Smith »

Can anyone tell me more about The Taylor Cup, awarded to the fastest time at Shelsley by a Morgan? Last presented in 2000 to Alan Foster. Is he still on the scene? Previous winners were Roger williams 1999, Craig Jones 1998 and Peter Garland in '96.

Taylor Cup

Can't help about the cup but Alan Foster is around. He wrote an article in Miscellany in 2000, I think, about Hill Climbing which sparked my interest and a few others. He was at Prescott in September competing in a Toyota MR2 while his Moss box + 8 awaits a back axle. He is not registered with the Speed Championship and we don't have an address but you may get some info at the meeting on Saturday.

Mike Hall would know what happens at Shelsley as well. I think he did the fastest time this year in a Morgan (31seconds??).

Good to see that there is an award for Shelsley, IMHO no award for fastest time is more deserved than this one.

Unfortunately, by the Speed Championship regulations, Mike Hall does not qualify for this as he is running in the Modsports class.

I did not think the award was for the speed championship only. I thought it was any Morgan at Shelsley whether to speed champ regs or not?? Mike does compete in a modified sports car class at Shelsey.

The Taylor Cup is (or was) part of the MSCC Championship, and is therefore open to any MSCC member who has registered for the MSCC Club Championship. Speed and Race drivers are entered automatically at the beginning of the season, others have to register with the Awards Secretary on an individual basis.

So if Mike registered with you he would count??

Not that I'm trying to do Phil T out of an award it's just that I thought Mike had taken the all time Morgan record this year.. I might be wrong

Registration with the MSCC Club Championship had to be made at the start of the season. Rules published in Miscellany in April 07.

Yes Tony, At the beginning of the season, we said that all race and sprint entrants would automatically be entered into the MSCC Championship.
Anyone else had to notify me as Awards sec of their intention to be included.

Richard,

You may already have this from Jim, but Alan Foster's contact details are:

Albury, 68 Quarry Road, Winchester, SO23 0JS. Tel: 01962 862505.

BTW I think his Plus 8 is in need of more than an axle! Just ask George Proudfoot!!
