Holly Birkett Relay Race.
Holly Birkett Relay Race.
Questions:
1) Does anybody when this event will be held?
2) Does anybody know where it will be held?
3) Any ideas on start time?
4) Have any Morgans entered?
5) Will there be hospitality in the pits?
6) Is it likely that any local radio editors will be covering the event?
7) Would there be any point in bringing a tennis racket?
8) Are the results of the HSCC Finals Meeting available yet?
Should any one be able to supply answers to these questions, it would be very useful.
Oh! No. Not him again.

Thanks Andy,
I did wonder just what sort of posts this enquiry might attract, because, based on previous experience it could have ended up as a discussion on concours, square wheels, or Mark Shears culinary abilities!!
I shall use the information to plan my day, and may I say I admire the concise presentation of the facts. In my PROFESSIONAL opinion you could make it big on radio, which is better than making it big on TV as that can offend.
Views on Losit Hamilton? steady on old chap, ladies or small children may be watching, and I am an Editor you know.(Anybody singing 'Massa's in de cold, cold ground' will not get their picture took)
Just out of interest I can remember watching the Birkett back in 1956, No bacon and eggs, computers, fireproof suits in those days, arriving by bicycle from North London meant cold orange squash and spam sandwiches, before a long, cold ride home. Men were men when I was a boy!
Look forward to seeing you in a nice warm garage.
regards,
Bob the ed......

Did you take your tennis racket in 1956?

Re: Holly Birkett Relay Race.
You can just see it, can't you.
Bob, the cub reporter; handlebar moustache, string back gloves, long flannel trousers, white sleeveless cricket sweater with stripes of a particularly bilious hue pedalling furiously up the A roads, tennis racket strapped to the handlebars, notebook gripped between the teeth - ready for the big scoop at the Holly Birkett. Those were the days, eh? Brings tears to the eyes.

Am I being over sensitive, or are you'se guys taking the mickey?
Some of the imagery conjured up by Mary and Chris's interjections is hardly flattering to a man who raced for the Edgware Road Club both on the road and in cyclo cross.
How many Morgan drivers road the North London Two Day?
90 miles from Barnet to Cambridge on Saturday and 100 miles around the Chiltern Hills on Sunday, all within a set time limit, 5hrs Sat, 6 hours Sunday. In February!!
Not for nothing were we called 'hard men'.
You don't know who your messing with.
Bob the Grimpeur.
No I did not use drugs, couldn't afford them.

Re: Holly Birkett Relay Race.
I note that the entry list includes 'Morgan Gentlemen' and amongst the drivers is one Sharlie Goddard! Last time I interviewed a Sharlie Goddard she was a Lady!
Is there something we should be told?

Probably a typographical error, it should read 'Morgan Catering'

Re: Holly Birkett Relay Race.
Our team was originally entered as Morgan Gentlemen and Lady but the 750MC only recorded Morgan gentlemen
The damaged cars from Snet have proven more difficult to fix so Glyn will now use his Caterham 1600cc and Sharlie has been replaced by our team manager Geraint Lewis driving his sons(road) FIA MGB car!
I informed the 750MC on Tuesday and ask them change the name to Morgan Gentlemen and Guests

Re: Holly Birkett Relay Race.
Is it my imagination or are there many more Caterham teams than usual this year? More than 15 by my count, if you incude Westfield, Lotus 7s, etc. And two teams of Mallocks, one of Radicals, hmm...Andy Green wrote: so Glyn will now use his Caterham 1600cc
And very very few recorded times round the International circuit should give the handicappers an interesting time.

Re: Holly Birkett Relay Race.
To be honest I think this year the handicap etc will be a bit of a lottery
However all the Morgan times from our recent MG meetings have been used so the 3 "Mog" teams have a level playing field
Next year all the data will be available and the handicaps will be better calculated
The increase in team numbers to 55 has been filled by more Caterhams etc,but I did write to 750 MC requesting to change to the Int circuit,so will not complain
